Antique Japanese Bamboo Flower Basket | Infinity Form | Mid 19th Century

This ‘Infinity’ form utilizes a hemp leaf pattern, (asa-no-ha), and is beautifully constructed through the fine delicate weaving. Here you see that the basket maker manipulated the tightness of wefts to produce a beautifully balanced basket. It has an extremely sturdy bamboo rim to hold the rim in place and finish off the piece. The basket is held together by very narrow rattan strips, which were flexible enough to bend, so that the handle could be attached to the body. The handle beautifully incorporates a double interlocking “V” knot. This piece is in its original excellent condition. Dimensions: 9-0” dia x 14-1/2”h.
