Kokeshi | Elegant Rare, Black Sosaku by Tsujita Ryozou

This is a beautiful Japanese Creative Kokeshi doll by award winning artist Tsujita Ryozou, (1923-) who passed away a few years ago and originally from Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture. The body is lathe-turned, and the details of the doll (long straight hair, eyes, and nose) are hand carved. The entire piece is finished in a special black lacquer with a polished onyx gem-like finish which is extremely rare. The front of the body has a raised, hand-applied decoration in the form of trees and grasses, suggesting the woven or painted ornamentation typically found on kimono. His signature is on the bottom of the piece. Age: approximately 1970. Excellent condition. Dimensions: 7 ¼”h
