Pictured is an extremely fine oshibori tray in black and red lacquer on sandalwood. This particular type is only used by people of high ranking or in places where quality is important within a traditional setting. Oshibori expresses the Japanese people’s high regards for cleanliness and hospitality.

Additional Information—

An oshibori is a hot, wet hand towel offered to customers in places such as restaurants, ryokans and for formal Japanese dinners at home. Oshibori are used to clean one’s hands before eating, and have long been a common sight in Japan. Cold oshibori are used in summer, and hot oshibori in winter. There are common oshibori trays used for commercial use, which are quite inexpensive and typically made of natural bamboo and plastic.
