Sosaku Kokeshi by Takahashi, Hashime | Red Leaves | Signed
During the peak of the autumn season in Japan, the leaves of the maple and ginkgo trees turn red and yellow, in concert, presenting beautiful scenery at every turn. Colorful leaves, (Koyo), are to the Japanese autumn what cherry blossoms are to spring. The appreciation of autumn leaves has been a popular motif on all forms of artwork.
This beautifully-turned doll has great visual and textural qualities enhanced by the lacquer painting of the maple leaf obi. A traditional headdress has been incorporated onto this creative doll. Dimension: 17-0”h. Condition: This large doll is in good condition with great coloration, but there is a crack on the back/base of the doll which does not interfere with its visual appreciation. The piece is signed and published in Sosaku Kokeshi: A New Look At An Old Tradition.
