Shown is an exceptional Saggar fired Ikebana Vase. Historically, closed clay containers called “box Saggars” have been used throughout the Orient and with this piece the artist's approach was to place materials in the Saggar to produce a unique quality that cannot be duplicated, assuring that the piece is truly one of a kind. After the container was fired it was then burnished with wax giving it a beautiful and textured surface. In this case, organic ethereal hues merged with pastel palettes with expressionistic landscapes that characterize the appearance of this Saggar fired piece. The piece has an unidentified signature on the base.

Vintage Condition: This is an exceptionally glazed vase in pristine condition: no chips or missing elements or repairs. “As is” and retains the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear, or structural damage are noted, which there are none.

NOTE: Originally found in ancient China and Korea, Saggars were containers used to protect wares from air-born ash, (fly ash), created during the firing of ancient wood and coal-fired kilns.
