This small kokeshi has the appearance and characteristics of a doll from the Akita Prefecture. Its body is shrouded in a Haori (jacket), with a center band/belt over the stopped Kimono. It is a fully hand-painted doll with one unusual element, a purple conical hat worn by merchants when traveling. It has an extremely expressive expression on its face. it has double eyelids, a cat-shaped nose, and a face framed with side hair fringes. This doll is made of birch wood and signed on the bottom with details in black, grey with red accents. Although signed with details the artist is unknown and there is no biographical information published on the artist.
Condition: Excellent, original condition, with no fading or loss of color and consistent with age and standards of collectible Folk Art.
