Shown is a pair of beautifully crafted Japanese sterling silver Tori Gate salt and pepper shakers. Both have their original plaques incorporated into the piece. Tori gates are commonly found at the entrance of a Shinto shrine and symbolically marks the transition from the earthly to the sacred and spiritual. This is a matched sterling set and hallmarked.

Vintage Condition: Excellent and all intact and “as is” and retains the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear, or structural damage noted. 

NOTE: Shinto shrines are places of worship and the dwellings of the kami, the Shinto “gods”. Sacred objects of worship that represent the kami are stored in the innermost chamber of the shrine where they cannot be seen by anybody. This symbolic representation of the Tori Gate is commonly given as a wedding gift.
