This exceptional, one-piece Bamboo Kimono Tray was standardly used by the household for women to place their kimonos while they are in the process of dressing, and in some cases used as a kimono storage container in a tansu or shelved wall for protection of the garments.
The rim, (fuchi) of the tray is the point of completion and is well balanced to the rest of the basket, and is carefully treated and sturdily wrapped. The body has an extremely intricate twill/diamond plaiting pattern for an exceptional effect which shows the artistic abilities of the craftsman. The bamboo retains an exceptional dark smoked patina throughout the piece.
Antique Condition: Excellent as originally made. “As is” with no flaws or cracking, (particularly on the corners), with no negative effects from aging, and retains the original craft/workmanship. NOTE: The image of Kimono tansu is for illustrative purposes only and not part of this sale.
