Exceptional Japanese Deco Lacquered Wood Bowl | Deco Era

Shown is an extraordinary Japanese lacquer, (Urushi), a hand-carved wooden bowl that measures 3-1/4” deep in the interior. It has a detailed interior Deco motif with a background of cream and gold swirling clouds, and three large gold flying sea birds. The interior motif is framed by a concave interior lip, which goes around the entire interior surface. The back of the bowl has convex detail ribbing giving a further dimension to the piece and finished in a polished deep wine red lacquer, which continues onto the interior lip of the bowl. It has three elevated feet, marked S2K. The stand is not included.
Vintage Condition: Excellent with perfect painted detail work with no damage to any part of the decorative interior. “As is”, and retains the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear, or structural damage noted.
NOTE: This style emphasizes surface embellishment, drawing heavily on the colors and styles of some of the early modern art movements, from Impressionism through Cubism. This Japanese period shows a wide range of objects and mediums including but not limited to lacquerware and woodblock prints and introduces a range of spectacular craftsmanship and sophisticated designs representing Japan’s contribution to the movement.
