This Daruma figurine is a solid and heavy clay doll with a simulated wood tone coloring. It is in the Japanese traditional  modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the Zen tradition of Buddhism. Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman and a symbol of perseverance and good luck. The face of the doll is looking downward with closed eyes in meditation. It has the typical “cowl” hood with no ornamentation other than the carved face. It is unsigned.
