This is an extremely, fine and beautiful tall enamel Japanese Cloisonné Vase. It depicts Iris' and foliage with two intertwining white herons in a wonderful color combination. As the foundation, a translucent gleaming dark blue enamel was used. The flowers are variegated purple with long slender yellow centers and long leaves and stems. It has a brass rim top and bottom finishing off the tapered form with a slightly flared neck. The vase is solid color and un-ornamented on the backside, with the decoration, (Iris’ and Herons), on the front. Original stand included.

Vintage Condition: Excellent with the inlay completely intact. “As is”, and both pieces have retained the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear or structural damage noted.

NOTE: ‘Standard Cloisonne’ is a term used to describe enamelware in which wires are attached to the basic shape by soldering, and then the various color enamels are applied between the wires, fired, and then finally polished. The condition is excellent with no wear or damage to either piece. A collector should note that the popularity of cloisonné as a whole slumped early in the Taisho era, (1912-1926), and again in 2008. Since dealer prices have been reduced by around 50%, it would be a good time to purchase for the investment will again be realized in the near future when appreciation of the workmanship and popularity returns.
