The design of this wonderful old handwoven vase shape flower basket is a bold Iwagumi style in a very tall, slender form, and woven intricate pattern and looped handle epitomize the free-wheeling styles prevalent at the turn of the century. Incorporated are thick diagonal inserts of thick smoked bamboo and assembled with stunning flowing lines. There is a paper label marked Made in Japan, which dates this piece.

Vintage Condition: Excellent as originally made. “As is” with no flaws or cracking, (particularly on the corners), affects from aging, and retains the original craft/workmanship.

NOTE: Japanese bamboo weaving is an ancient traditional art form with master craftsmen taking years of study and practical experience to come up with beautiful objects that defy the known stiffness of bamboo. The Japanese mastered the art of bamboo weaving to make baskets, traditionally used for storing rice, harvesting tea, and carrying sake.
