Japanese Tie-dyeing (Kyoto Shoin's Art Library of Japanese Textiles, Volume 11) by Ando Hiroko
Age:1993 (Publication Date)
Kyoto and Nagoya are the only cities where shibori is produced. As the dyeing process requires much time and energy, successors to this labor-intensive tradition have dwindled. In the past, these production centers depended on the handing down of traditional techniques, reviving the lost methods, and restoration work. In order for this tradition to continue and develop, great efforts are needed.
This rare and wonderful small Hardcover book on both Japanese and translated into English covers: The History of tie-Dyeing; The beauty of Tie-Dyeing; Shibori in the Tohoku, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Kyushu prefecture; and The Techniques of Tie-Dying, including the history of Shibori; Shibori in Medieval Times; Shibori in Local Areas and the Upheaval in the World of Clothing. It is published by Fujioka Mamoru Kyoto Shion Company and has many colored plates illustrating both techniques as well as designs.
Condition: New, out-of-print, and is excellent, is an unused Hardbound original without a broken spine.
