Book
Later Japanese Prints by Richard Illi
Age:1978 (Publication Date)
Description
This is an extremely large oversized book filled with 65 illustrations in black/white and 33 colored prints. This volume is an anthology of nineteenth and twentieth century Japanese woodblock brings, arranged very broadly accordingly to their subject matter. The bulk of the illustrations, however, fall with a period of fifty years starting about 1830. The author has chosen to exclude prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige with their specializations sin landscapes and nature studies and has included a selection beyond one of the best of these, Yoshitoshi, and artist whose career spanned the years 1860-1890.
Japan has changed and is changing. It has left us a legacy of an art, born out of ephemeral popular appeal. The prints were produced for one reason, and for one reason only: to give pleasure to those who saw them and purchased them.
Condition: New, very good, original OVERSIZED, (11-1/2” X 16-0”), Softbound, unused. As shown with slight wear from shelving and with a strong unbroken spine.
