Vintage Japanese Sui Hatsu | Bamboo Kakehanaire Wall Vase

This wall vase with a Bamboo Container/ holder is referred to as a Kakihanaire refers to the hanger called a Sui Hatsu which is a device for displaying small and delicate seasonal flowers. These are used in the Japanese tea ceremony to hang flower vases for chabana (tea ceremony flowers) used in a Tokonoma (alcove) and can be affixed to walls or pillars, and part of the interior aesthetic. This piece embodies the Japanese indispensable concept of “mottainai”, or not wasting materials through recycling and in this case the reuse of paulownia wood. The vase itself is made from a bamboo culm which has been cut to hold flowers and water. It is beautifully polished and has developed a wonderful patina over the years. The piece was made by a Japanese woodworker in Kyoto.
Vintage Condition: Excellent condition meaning commensurate with age and void of damage, cracks, breakage, or repairs, and still retains its distinctive character without restoration. Meets the high standards of the collector of Japanese Ikebana and Flower fixtures.
