Vintage Miniature Chinese Foo Dog, (Shishi), with Articulated Head | Chinese Cloisonné and Filigree Pendant

Antique Chinese hand crafted small Shishi, (Foo Dog/Foo Lion), with head that is articulated and an ornamented ball on one foot, with frame and limbs constructed from a intricate weaving of 14k gold gilded silver filigree. Its head, mane and bushy tail, (which is made to accommodate a gold chain for hanging), and decorated in colorful hues of glossy enamel cloisonné in red, cobalt blue and fir green. This playful character is expressive having white eyes and teeth which was traditionally popular during this period. All elements are intact as originally crafted.

This small three-dimensional figure was made to be a pendant with the abundant character of the Shishi, (Foo Dog Lion), that represent  traditional temple guardians in Imperial China.  Cloisonné, which is an important element in the design of this pendant, is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects. During this period, using vitreous enamel, and inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials was common for objects of art.

Vintage Condition: Excellent, “as is”, and retains the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear or structural damage noted.
