This unique and rare, one-piece hard-carved wood Kashigata cookie mold is in the shape of Sea Bream, (Tai) fish for making one-sided treats. This type of cookie mold called Wagashi which is a broad term used to describe traditional Japanese confections typically enjoyed with green tea and other important and significant occasions. This is a single sided mold for making large cookies, not individual confectinaries.
NOTE: The Sea Bream is a product of multiple sources: history, legend, mystical experience, artistic genius, popular imagination and inventiveness, and aspirations intrinsic to the formation of Japanese culture and the definitions of Japanese character. The sea bream, or tai in Japanese, is considered a symbol of good luck because of the word association with omedetai, or "auspicious, congratulatory."
