Offered is an unusual set of four (4) Japanese Kutani porcelain chopstick rests, intricately hand-painted in brushed silver with a red outline of the TSUBAME SHINKO GINGINKO. The Ginkgo is known as a symbol of longevity and endurance because the tree can live for a thousand years. The chopsticks rest, an important element used during the Japanese tea ceremony, and in this case come with a small fragrance silk sachet to complement the set and enhance the experience.
Though we don’t often consider their importance chopstick rests play an integral role in Japanese culture. For those who are unfamiliar, chopstick rests, or hashioki, are exactly what they sound like: an elevated rest to lay your chopsticks during a meal and to honor special guests with an individual experience -- Practical and aesthetically beautiful, (sit very firmly onto the surface) which are two major aspects of Japanese culture.
