Antique Japanese Ko Tansu | Personal Storage Chest

Dimensions: 17-1/2”h x 17-1/2”w x 9-1/2”d

An antique Japanese Ko Tansu (personal storage chest) with six (6) drawers and a beautifully beveled sliding door design made of Zelkova wood. Original age patina. Original hand-made and beautifully fashioned bronze drawer handles,(stylized Hiru-te) and two front sliding panels with bronze Hikite finger plates with "Shakudo" which is the use of gold, silver, and copper into a darkened copper base representing a cottage and pine tree motif (see photo). The piece has hardened wood dowels instead of nails and straight dovetail joinery construction.

Condition: Excellent and clean tansu with age and indications of use adding to the character of the piece A wax called ‘Rōsoku no Rō’, which is similar to candle wax was used to retain its original and natural wood grain.
