This beautiful elongated cabinet display was created to show collections of small decorative objects, "okimono”, such as pottery and three-dimensional figures, and dolls such as Kokeshi in a visually appealing way, embodying the aesthetic of Japanese craftsmanship. "Oki-Doko” essentially translates to “excellent” or “perfect” in Japanese, signifying the high quality and beauty of the cabinet affording satisfaction in the presentation of displayed items. These moveable display cabinets are valued for their elegant and refined appearance, adding a touch of Japanese tradition to a room. These rare decorative furniture pieces exhibit a design aesthetic heavily influenced by Japanese culture, often featuring intricate details and delicate craftsmanship.

The piece has clean lines and a simple form with a focus on functionality and elegance. As with this piece, “Oki-Doko” are typically made of cherry or maple, highlighting natural grain and carving details, and are finished in a lovely medium to dark brown wood color and have raw natural bark carved posts on the two front-facing corners. The overall cabinet has an original clear lacquer finish. The most unusual design feature is that the sliders are faced with a brocade fabric depicting bamboo and foliage in cream colors.

Condition: Original, very good condition considering that the piece is Post-1940s with minimal scratches from age and use. There are no chips or missing elements.
