The rustic and charming Japanese Pheasant (also known as Kiri) is woodblock printed on cotton and stuffed with rice husk on 100% cotton. The rice husks give a perfect amount of volume and firmness to bring the expertly shaped and printed bird to life. This representation of the Pheasant show a large, chicken-like bird with a long, pointed tail, small head, long neck and plump body. Throughout Japan they were symbols of beauty for which the design of the fabric represent its feathers in colors of brown, moss green and red/orange on a white background. Commonly found in forests, grasslands, and agricultural lands. The bottom of the piece is red with a white tag on the bottom says uguisu hand printed woodblock by Shinkougei”, (Founded in 1972 in Hida Takayama, Shinkougei is a craft workshop that specializes in creating various types of craftwork using woodblock print techniques.
