Offered is an interpretation of the Zen Patriarch Daruma emphasizing the posture of Daruma in repose. Together with the posture and his calm expression, large belly exposed, and has a more serene feel than the often seen more fiercely determined Daruma in meditation. This impressive Bizen-yaki Okimono is unglazed, its ironlike hardness and natural dark brown color with red undertones are the direct results of the high temperatures of the kiln. The Bizen’s characteristic reddish brown base adds the sense of warmth and relaxation to the piece. His feet are smoothed and naturally defined. The piece is an earlier piece and is unsigned.
Condition: Excellent condition for the piece is perfect, with no chipping, missing elements, or color loss. It retains a beautiful finish, with its original craftsmanship preserved. Meeting the standards of the collector of the Japanese folk art genre.
NOTE: Daruma is regarded as the chief of the Six Patriarchs of Buddhism.
