Dimensions: 14-1/2”h x 13-0”w x 10-0”d
This wonderful personal Kamakura-bori hari-bako, keepsake box, or accent piece in any room. This miniature chest has chisel markings left intentionally to accentuate patterned areas on the front of the chest with a minimum of three layers of burgundy lacquer, (dark, reddish-purple shades), which change from the smooth to the textures surfaces). It is beautifully adorned with an oversized lily, (in Japanese culture known as “yuri”, generally symbolize purity, renewal and rebirth), carved onto the two exterior hinged doors. Inside there are three concealed drawers fitted with charming metal pulls offering small personal item storage inside. Additionally are two larger drawers exposed and at the base of the cabinet that have circular pulls (may have been replaced over time). The overall front surface has a final coat of powder to give a highly polished elegant appearance.
Condition: Excellent Condition with natural patina made in the mid-20th century (1945-1969). It shows minimal traces of use with no restorations and has been wonderfully preserved offering both artistry and function. The piece perfectly embraces a wabi-sabi or Japanese aesthetics.
