Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi entitled “Kanako | Flower Girl” by Watanabe, Masao (1917-2007)

The smaller doll represents the spirit of Kanako-Shibori, which means baby deer. The Shibori pattern/technique, (commonly thought of in the West as ‘tie-dye’), is one of the famous Japanese looped-binding dyeing techniques. The doll is covered with beautifully stylized three-dimensional dots in an ‘asanoha’ pattern and is said to look like the back of a fawn on a black and red gradient base. The body is decorated with variegated pink roses with a thick oil painting in a swirling pattern and texture. Together with the carved flower petal-like patterns that frame her face, the artist can enhance. in which the artist enhances with additional tactile sensation. Today, his son Yuki Watanabe, and his Grandson, Kunihiko Watanabe, continue the family tradition of crafting Kokeshi.  There is a full inscription and a red, impressed stamp identifying the artist.

Condition: Excellent, lathe-turned creation, and tactile experience, it is outstanding excellent, impressive, and beautiful. No chips, cracks, breaks, missing pieces, or restoration, and retains its original details and finish. The piece meets all the standards of the vintage collectible Sosaku Kokeshi by Watanabe, Masao.
