Wong Moo Chew Abstract Etching | Limited Edition
Dimensions: Image - 14/1/4” x 18-1/5”; Sheet - 20-3/4” x 25-1/4”
This is a color etching on paper by Wong Moo Chew. It is signed in pencil by the artist's lower right corner, with Ecriture 2, (abstract etching) marked in the center. The name l'Ecole Nationale is in the left-hand corner which is the title of the piece. This print is a rare, limited edition and collectible work of art being both low numbered and part of this limited series that obviously shows his influence from working at Atelier Lacouriere in Montmartre where he studied under Zao Wou-Ki and Pierre Soulages. Research tells us that this piece was one of his earlier pieces just after taking his position at l'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs
Condition: Excellent condition, commensurate with age with no fading, discoloration, or torn elements, with slight toning around the edges of the sheet. Unframed, loose, and not mounted or glued down. “As is”, with slight surface soiling, and retains the original craft/workmanship. The piece was purchase in 1985 from a private estate.
NOTE: Wong Moo-Chew, (Malaysian-French) was born in 1942 in Selangor, Malaysia. In 1967, he received a scholarship to study at l'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1974, he was named professor of printmaking at l'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs in Nice
