Dimensions: 5-3/8”h x 2-1/2”dia.
Offered is a pair of Meiji-era Japanese Peanut Butter Bronze Vases, each of tapered ovoid form with a narrow and beautifully fashioned ringed neck, everted rim, and circular pedestal base. Each incorporates Shakudō, an incredibly complex and tedious process, which involves delicate patience and diligence and whose use was expanded during the Meiji era (1868 to 1912). Hon-zogan, (flush inlay) details in gold, and silver, and brings the artwork alive and depicts standing snowy egrets, (two flying on one vase and two forging amid reeds in a stream on the other). The pieces are unsigned which is because, during the early part of this era, artists were more interested in the excellence of their creations rather than personal recognition. Later such artifacts were signed because of the exportation of art objects throughout the world.
The Stand — An antique rosewood stand that is included was used from ancient times to the present to celebrate and present beautiful objects and served to bring esteemed objects into more prominent light. As with this stand the root of boxwood or its facsimile was a favorite for display — This stand has a silky smooth texture and richly toned surface that is pleasing both to the touch and eye.
Condition: Excellent, original condition with no scratches and beautifully detailed images and commensurate with age. The pieces have not been cleaned or polished and left as found.
