Traditional Rare Vintage, Nanbu-kei Traditional Kokeshi by Sakashita, Takao

Dimensions: 9-3/4”h

This simple but unique and expressive Kokeshi originated in the cities of Miyako, Hanamaki and Morioka, Atwate prefecture, and is recognizable by both its facial treatment and the red lace-like collar topping off the unpainted, smooth-surfaced flowing body. These dolls are known as kina-kina, and have a movable head, similar to the modern “nodders”. The head is a snap-on type, attached loosely, so that it would turn and wobble. It demonstrates more contemporary detailing of the face with broken side hair fringes, double-drooping eyelids, and Neko-Bana, (cat’s nose).  The piece is signed by Sakashita-san (1944-2014).

Condition: Excellent, original condition, with no fading or loss of color and consistent with age and standards of collectible Folk Art. All details are perfect and as crafted.
