Traditional Rare Vintage, Narugo Traditional Kokeshi by Sakurai Shouji

Offered is a very rare Narugo-style doll. It contains both traditional elements such as the more modern face treatment and the wide banding of the Obi, which is both three-dimensional, colored in a semitransparent green banding. The body of the doll has Chrysanthemums in red and purple, with undertones of yellow, as if part of a landscape. It has beautifully-fashioned hair and side fringes with red bows. The ornamentation being a definitive feature of her head, with very expressive eyes and a marubana, (round nose) and red lips. The doll is signed on the bottom by the artists who was born in 1927 and studied under masters Oonuma Iwazo and Sakurai Mannojo.

Condition: Excellent, original condition, with no fading or loss of color and consistent with age and standards of collectible Folk Art. All details are perfect and as crafted.
