Vintage Japanese Hitsuji | Zodiac Papier-mâché Bobble Head Folk Art Figure

Offered is a handmade “hariko” (papier-mâché) zodiac animal in the form of a sheep (Hitsuji) which represents various zodiac animal in numerous styles across the regions of Japan. It is a charming figure with a wonderful bobbling head which causes it to nod. It is made by affixing many layers of paper to a frame made of clay or woven bamboo. Once the glue is dry, the frame is removed, leaving a lightweight character ready to lift any mood. The piece is has a red impressed stamp by the artist on the bottom.
Condition: Excellent means the piece is perfect, totally original and complete with no fading, cracks, or restoration, and retains its wonderful patina that corresponds to its vintage. The artifact meets all the standards of the collectible Vintage Hariko Papier-Mâché forms.
