This is a hand-made Japanese fighting top for games of skill is from Hiroshima with a simple decorated wood body with a metal tip to increase the power of the rotation and the striking ability, and a metal weight imbedded to give balance and control. Its simplicity makes the spinning top unique. The name Temawashi means “to put your hands around something”, and in this case it is the axle, (skewer stick), that enables the spinning of the top.  The fighting tops were once a very popular outdoor game among boys on New Year’s Day in Japan but after World War II, it vanished due to the increasing dangerous traffic conditions on the streets of Japan.
