This hand-turned wooden doll entitled: “Dojyo”, (Young Girl), represents a mid-century Kokeshi. The circular-banded body is painted in red and black, beginning with a simple motif which is more free-form than the typical variable and painted line work of the ‘Rokuro Moyo’ treatment. This artist is famous for being the most accomplished in the circular style of painting, as he took several steps further by either reversing the line at some point or by zig-zagging the lines periodically. Both add a dynamic element to the overall treatment of the body. Again, the hair treatment remains a focal point in the overall design. Signed by the artist.
