Vintage Japanese Black Lacquer Pickle Bowl with Image of Daruma

Being offered is a beautifully detailed lacquered bowl decorated with a motif of hand-painted red and gold outlined Daruma, (Bodhidharma), the individual who is known as the founder of the Zen Buddhism sect. This lacquer bowl is made on a foundation of hand-formed wood, then painted with his figure and auspicious symbols, and polished with multiple layers of lacquer to bring out deep hues and smoothness of lacquer finish. The rim of the bowl is also highlighted in gold.
Condition: Expertly rendered, excellent condition, gentle wear, remains functional and wonderful and unique serving piece. A work of art on its own that collectors love to display.
