Vintage Japanese Daruma with Fly Whisk | Religious Okimono

Sold

Dimensions: 4-3/4”h

Dharma transmission can be appreciated on many different levels. Offered is a beautifully detailed lathe-turned wood and painted figure of a standing Daruma, with an artistically painted and detailed face with rich patina. He has a discerning expression, large stylized eyebrows, serious eyes, splendid and expressive beard and large ears with red hoops.  He is holding a silk thread orange staff fly whisk over his right shoulder. His other arm tucked into his flowing robes that are painted in detail with shallow carving of the folds in the robe. His cowl is falling slightly below the back of his head. The piece is unsigned.

Condition: Very good vintage condition and commensurate with age. Unusual interpretation  with some loss of enameling of the robe. Unique and unusual interpretation for the collector of Japanese religious folk art.
