Vintage Japanese Futa-Oki Studio Pottery “Lid-Rest” | Tea Ceremony Accessory

Descriptive qualities& condition:

Dimensions: 3-0”h x 3-1/4” dia.

This is a beautifully fashioned Futaoki, (lid rest), in a wonderful modeled reddish brown glaze on the exterior and interior with a subtile oil spot texture, in a novel pyramid design raised on three feet. The studio, (Sutudio HANARE), identified the piece as being a Saggar fired piece coated several times with Terra sigillata, (ultra refined clay slip giving a soft sheen and polished giving this high gloss), and prepared in the same manner as the horsehair Raku ware. The piece was made around 20 years ago. The craftsman is un-identified and the piece is not signed.

Vintage Condition: This is an exceptionally glazed vase in pristine condition: no chips or missing elements or repairs. “As is” and retains the original craft/workmanship. Any discoloration, chipping/cracking, surface wear or structural damage are noted.
